Shoe Box Appeal

0

Date: Friday 10th Dec
Time: 12:00 am

This Christmas the school is once again supporting the Brighter Futures Winter Shoebox Appeal at The Great Western Hospital in Swindon. The appeal helps cheer up those patients who unfortunately find themselves in hospital over the festive period by gifting them a shoebox filled with goodies. In previous years, this incredible appeal had enough shoeboxes donated to distribute across four of the care of the elderly wards at GWH.

We are hoping to fill and donate as many boxes as possible and to ensure that we have enough of the items suggested by Brighter Futures, we are proposing that each class is responsible for donating specific items from two categories as follows:

Shoe box item Class
Chocolate/sweets e.g mints, toffees, boiled sweets (no nuts please)

Roe
Gloves or scarf Roe
Small puzzle books e.g. Sudoku, word searches, crosswords

Fallow
Warm hats or fluffy socks Fallow
Miniature toiletries e.g. shower gel, hand cream, deodorant, soap, flannel, hairbrush, comb, compact mirror, hand sanitiser

Muntjac
Small writing pads or reading books, pens Muntjac
Handkerchiefs Sika
Small pocket games e.g. dominos, pack of cards, tiddly winks

Sika
Christmas card All welcome to pop in a Christmas card to wish the patient a Merry Christmas.

Please can items be new/unused or in excellent clean second hand condition. All must be in a condition that you or your relative would be happy to receive. The reason we have hats, gloves and scarves on the list is because the patients tend to take the boxes home with them and unfortunately some of them cannot afford heating and therefore need hats and gloves to keep them warm over the winter.

As well as the contents of the boxes other items also required for the appeal are:

  • Empty, intact shoe boxes
  • Christmas wrapping paper
  • Christmas cards with envelopes
  • Bows & ribbon

If you have any of the above items surplus to requirement at home, they would be gratefully received for the appeal.

Please can you bring your donated items in to school by Friday 10th December so that boxes can be sorted, filled and ready to be taken to the hospital on Friday 17th December.

Many thanks to Hannah Mills for co-ordinating this appeal on behalf of The Friends.

Thank you in advance for your support!
