Daniel Martin from Stockcross has completed The Fan Dance, a gruelling 24km SAS Selection endurance race up Pen Y Fan, the highest mountain in the Brecon Beacons, to raise funds for his children’s school, Chilton Foliat Primary School.
Daniel, who completed the brutal challenge with the ‘Heathrow Pioneers’, work colleagues from the Heathrow Airport expansion project, carried a weighted Bergen (military rucksack) for the challenge which he completed in 5 hours 56 minutes.
To date he has raised over £440 for the Chilton Foliat Community Association charity, which will go towards the new and improved Community Club House situated adjacent to the school. While Government funding has been secured to build the new classroom portion of the project, a further £85,000 is needed to fund the new Community Club House to provide space for Chilton Childcare which runs the Early Birds Club, After School Club and Holiday Club. To date, over £80,000 has been raised for the project.
“The difference I have seen in my son since he has been at Chilton Foliat Primary School is frankly amazing. He has grown so much and is more confident and happier than he has been in a very long time,” comments Daniel. “It is for this very reason that I decided to raise vital funds for the charity while challenging myself do the Pen Y Fan challenge, and while I found the challenge to be brutal I’m hoping to do it again next year!’
